Business
Meeting Minutes
Due to the snowstorm and many
late arrivals, David Poisson called the meeting to order at
10:25
AM
.
Twenty-four people were present, 21 members, 2 guests and one speaker.

Secretary read the minutes of the
October
14, 2004
meeting. Motion made and seconded to accept.
Passed unanimously.
Don Hayes, Treasurer, (not present). The treasurer’s report was
distributed with a balance of $4,236.25 as of
12/31/04
. Suggestion made by Deb
Cheever to include the number of memberships on the line with the dollar amount.
Motion made and seconded to accept. Passed unanimously.
Old Business: Question arose regarding how much money we are allowed to
hold as a non-profit. Judith Lonergan said an annual report is required by the
Attorney General’s office. The amount of money held by
NHAVA
is small and it is spent as
required.

Program Committee – Chair,

(reporting)
Current membership at 64 paid – 9 new members.
22 members
have not renewed. Discussion ensued regarding refunds for those
who paid for but could not attend today’s meeting/luncheon. Some
did not want to be refunded but for those who do, the board will
decide. Cova thanked everyone for their support as she leaves the
Board.
Susan
Kuhn
will take over as Membership Chair. Cova will
provide a list of new members’ committee interests.
Communications
– Letty Barton (reporting)
The delay in getting the newsletter out was due to serious illness.
David Poisson referred to the by-laws, which state that written notice
of the annual meeting shall be issued to all current members no less
than two weeks prior to the meeting. The Communications
Committee is in need of a person with PageMaker experience. David
stated that Publisher Software cannot do the newsletter. Lois
Meredith volunteered, if
NHAVA
would buy the software. Previously,
Carol
Heath
’s
place of employment provided the software. Dave will
explore assistance with funding the purchase. Deb Cheever
suggested exploring other publishing software that might be more
user friendly. Lois stated the benefits of PageMaker (takes PDF files,
exports files to printer, etc.). Newsletter template exists – Speedy
Printers has one as well as Carol’s employer.
David will deliver a plaque,
flowers and a card to Carol from the
membership immediately following the meeting. Dave expressed
appreciation for Carol’s contribution to
NHAVA
Publications – Chair,
Cyndi Paulin
Cyndi announced that the first press release has gone out and asked
If anyone has seen it. She encouraged members to send an email if
press releases show up in their local papers.
Legislative
– Judith Lonergan (reporting)
Don Chesnel attended a workshop and gave Judith handouts on
State Law re indoor smoking and Risk Management for Nonprofits.
Judith thanked Don for his work on the Legislative Committee and
encouraged members to join – especially if they have an interest in
risk management.
NHAVA
needs to be aware of all bills relating to
our profession.

(nomination declined) and Donna Wright.

Motion made and seconded to accept nominations. Passed
unanimously.
Other Business:
Judith suggested changing the month of the annual meeting from
January to October. Discussion followed with most in favor. Martha
Richards stated that by-laws would need to be revised and the Board
needs to review, make a proposal and bring it to a vote at the April
Membership meeting. Motion made and seconded and accepted.
Reminder given re Board Retreat on February 11 (snow date 2/18).

Meredith
reports the committee is working hard on the Gov.
Conference on Volunteerism to be held
May
18, 2005
.
David announced that, in the
future, minutes of Membership Meetings
will be posted on the website. Thus, everyone will have a chance to
review them before the next meeting.
Business meeting adjourned
and speaker introduced.
Ellen Koenig, Senior Program Officer,
New Hampshire
Charitable
Foundation.
Second speaker, Peggy Kieschnick, MSW, ACSW, was
unable to attend.
Drawings were held for several doorprizes. Lunch was then served.
Most Committee Chairs were not present but Dave thanked all
committee members for their hard work.
Cova
Greig
,
presented a gift
to Jean Barrett, the only member of the Membership Committee
present. A gift also went to Judith Lonergan for taking care of the
NHAVA
mailbox.

Plaques were given to last year’s officers (none were present)
The final announcement was made by Lynne DeVivo. This year’s
winner of the Judith Lonergan Award, given in honor outstanding
achievement in volunteer
administration, is Don Chesnel, NH State
Elks Association. Although Don was not present, Lynne read a fitting
tribute. Daveid Judith and Robin will present this award to Don in
person in the near future.
Congratulations, Don!
The Rookie Award will be presented at the April meeting.
